Government Electrical Regulator
The Government Electrical Regulator (GER) is the government agency charged with the responsibility to regulate the electrical installation and inspection processes, register Electricians, enroll Technical Electrical Assistants (TEAs), license Electrical Inspectors and ensure safe electrical installations throughout the island. GER certification is needed for all new constructions, for premises that have been rewired or which have undergone any kind of renovation. JPS cannot make connections to premises that have not been certified by the GER.
New Fortress Energy South Power Holdings (NFE SPH)
New Fortress Energy is part of Fortress Investment Group, a highly diversified global asset firm with approximately US$72 billion assets under management, and, together with its affiliates, has a long history of owning and operating energy, transportation, and infrastructure-oriented assets throughout the world. New Fortress Energy provides JPS with Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) for its 120-megawatt power plant at Bogue, Montego Bay. NFE also supplies natural gas to the 190MW South Jamaica Power Plant (SJPC) in which JPS is a joint venture partner.
WRB Enterprises
In 2013 WRB was chosen by the Office of Utilities Regulations in Jamaica to develop the utility-scale Content Solar project ─the first of its kind in the Caribbean. This saw the development of a 20-megawatt grid-connected solar photovoltaic facility in Clarendon, Jamaica.
Jamaica Energy Partners
Jamaica Energy Partners (JEP) – an Independent Power Producer (IPP) – provides JPS with approximately 190 Megawatts of the electricity it sells to customers. JEP has two floating power barges in Old Harbour Bay and St Catherine, and one land-based facility (West Kingston Power Partner located on Marcus Garvey Drive).
Eight Rivers Energy Company Limited (EREC)
Eight Rivers Energy Company constructed a 37MW Solar Power Plant in Paradise Park Westmoreland in 2018. Our company signed a Power Purchase Agreement with EREC which will see us purchasing electricity from the solar facility for 20 years.
Wigton Wind Farm
Wigton Wind Farm Limited is another IPP from which JPS purchases electricity. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica (PCJ), and is located at Wigton – a small rural district in central Manchester. Wigton Wind Farm has an estimated capacity of approximately 20 Megawatts of power.
BMR Energy
BMR Energy developed, owns and operates the largest private-sector renewable energy project in Jamaica in the form of a wind farm. Operation commenced in July 2016 and was honored with a 2016 Impact Award from the U.S. Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC). BMR provides JPS with 36.3 megawatts of power.
