Beacon, St. Elizabeth comes alive with JPS Back-to-School Fair – Approximately 300 Students Benefit

High energy, smiling faces and tons of fun were the order of the day at the recently held JPS Back-to-School Fair in Beacon, St. Elizabeth, where close to 300 students benefitted from the Company’s activation, on Thursday (August 22).

Scores of school children had their school medical done and walked away with supplies including school bags, stationeries, water bottles and book vouchers as they prepare for the resumption of classes starting in September.

Head of JPS Foundation, Sophia Lewis, shared that the company’s efforts as part of the ongoing post-Beryl rebuilding in St. Elizabeth, not only involves work being done to improve the electricity infrastructure but also distributing aid to help the people get back on their feet.

“Picking up the pieces after a hurricane can be a heavy financial burden to bear, especially when back-to-school is around the corner,” she said. “We are committed to community development and wherever we can lend assistance, JPS is always ready to do so.”

Member of Parliament for St. Elizabeth South Western, Floyd Green was also in attendance. He lauded the JPS team for their ongoing presence and support across the parish.

“We are grateful to have JPS here today bringing positive energy and needed assistance to help the people of St. Elizabeth build back better. They have been on the ground holding community meetings and they continue to play an important role in back-to-school preparation for scores of parents and children.”

JPS has so far held community meetings in Slipe, Parottee, Clapham, Holland and Balaclava in the parish, in addition to two back-to-school fairs, including  Beacon. (Other Back-to-School Fairs have been held across the island.)

The company  has indicated that they will be making additional stops across the parish to ensure as many students as possible can be assisted.
