(Kingston Jamaica, March 4, 2025) JPS is reporting that residents in the Mount Diablo area of St. Catherine, who were out of electricity going into the weekend of March 1, were out of supply due to their own illegal actions. Overloading from illegal connections has resulted in four (4) transformers being burnt beyond repair, in just five (5) days. Of the roughly 420 households, there are only 39 metered customers, which is a 91% rate of electricity theft. On Saturday March 1, at about 8:15pm, the latest burnt transformer was replaced and electricity restored to the community.
Residents are once again urged to desist from throwing up illegal wires on the electricity network. JPS has been conducting monthly raids to remove illegal connections from the area and is encouraging community members to take steps to get legal supply.
The Company is also encouraging persons in need of information, to reach out to its Customer Care Centre at 888-225-5577 or its social media pages @myjpsonline for information on how to become regularized.
