Our Projects

The JPS Foundation Power Up Community Action

The JPS Foundation (JPSF), in partnership with USAID/FHI360 and the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ), in 2022, offered training to young men and women from vulnerable communities through the Fresh Start Jamaica program. The implementation of the program was led by the JPS Community Renewal and JPSF teams, with input from support agencies and institutions. The 5-month Program included vocational training, life skills training, mentorship and internship, over the period June to November 2022. Under the new banner of Power Up Community Action, the project aligns well with the JPSF key focus areas, climate resilience, community empowerment and STEM Education. Additionally, it will support the parent company’s work in community renewal.

The overall goal of the project is to increase the employability and entrepreneurial capacity of youth categorized as at-risk and residing within identified urban communities in Kingston and St. Andrew, through:

  • Electrical Technology or Solar Technology certification
  • Literacy and Numeracy
  • Entrepreneurship; and
  • Life skills
